When it comes to veterans with psychiatric disabilities she is all about work as a cure and underestimating the severity of PTSD, but when it comes to non-veterans or even veterans with other psychiatric disabiliities she is in favor of excluding them from educational opportunities, jobs and even equal citizenship. Dr. Satel is the only psychiatrist I know of who has opined that state protection and advocacy agencies that try to protect the human rights of psychiatric patients be eliminated and opined that human rights for people with psychiatric disabilities get in the way of treatment and shouldn't get so much attention. (As if they actually got attention.) She also has lobbied to have funding for psychiatric patients' technical asssistance centers which help people connect to each other and to services be eliminated. She's a methadone shrink who became a Republican because it was a way to get an internship through Robert Woods Johnson and by her own admission didn't ever even vote until her middle age. And don't get me started on her sense of entitlement to buy a kidney and how it should have been legal. As a person on the UNOS waiting list for a kidney, I resent her speaking for people with kidney failure as if we agreed with her when the vast majority of us do not.

http://hymes.wordpress.comAlisonHymeshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03753580380976477352noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9587882.post-91017787367645288592008-03-01T20:11:00.000-08:002008-03-01T20:11:00.000-08:00Carla, I tried linking this in the WSJ opinion for...Carla, I tried linking this in the WSJ opinion forum, but for some reason they wouldn't approve the post. I have no idea why. I am a subscriber. I think it just might be because you're more knowledgeable than Dr. Satel. Ya think? She has no comprehension of either the scope of the condition or the problems created by not acknowledging it. She appears to be just another twit seeking to make a name for herself on the backs of veterans.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
