Buy Something at Sears

I do not and have not used this site to promote commercial establishments or products unless they in some way directly benefit or directly support members of the military.

So this last week before Christmas, I ask you to consider buying at least one gift at Sears.

I know I needed this reminder since Sears isn't always my first choice.

How does Sears treat its employees who are called up for military duty? By law, they are required to hold jobs open and available, but nothing more. Usually, people take a big pay cut and lose benefits as a result of being called up. Sears voluntarily pays the difference in salaries and maintains all benefits, including medical insurance and bonus programs for all called up reservist-employees for up to two years. I submit that Sears is an exemplary corporate citizen and should be recognized for its contribution. I suggest we all shop at Sears, and be sure to find a manager to tell them why we are there so the company gets the positive reinforcement it well deserves. When you think of how long the war has lasted and they haven't withdrawn from their commitment. Could we each buy at least one thing at Sears this year?

This is a company with a strong sense of commitment to those who serve. In addition to the treatment of their employee Guard and Reserve members, Sears is fully supporting the HEROES at HOME program. Sears asks its card holders to Give thanks to those who serve. Give generously to Heroes at Home.

Make a purchase with your Sears card* or make a contribution of $1, $5 or $10 and make a difference in the lives of servicemen and women and their families. Heroes at Home assists families of military personnel and veterans by making critical repairs and modifications to their homes.

Heroes at Home is a program developed through the combined efforts of Sears Holdings Management Corporation and Rebuilding Together to help improve the lives of injured American Veterans and their families by making repairs, improvements or modifications to their homes. Heroes at Home is a service mark owned by Sears Brands, LLC. 100% of your donation will benefit Rebuilding Together, a 501(c)(3) organization. Your entire cash donation is eligible for tax deduction treatment for U.S. Federal tax purposes. For more information on Rebuilding Together, visit
http://www.rebuildingtogether.org/.

* Between November 9 and December 28, for each purchase you make with your Sears card, Sears Holdings Management Corporation will make a donation to Rebuilding Together up to a total of $1,000,000.

There are other companies that have also been respectful of their employees. This information can be found at Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve. While I won't tell anyone what to do, it would be nice if we could do business with the companies that treat their employees the way that we would all like to be treated ... especially in this holiday (gift giving) time of year.

Sears has been a WONDERFUL participant in our SpouseBuzz Live events. They always send a great representative to talk about the wonderful employment opportunities they offer. Plus, they have some great prizes for our drawings--even a big deep freezer. :)

And, with Land's End things available at Sears, you cannot go wrong!
